Neuton Auto’s eSpace9 Electric Bus Receives CMVR Compliance Certification from ARAI

Greaves Electric Mobility

Neuton

Pune-based Neuton Auto Private Limited has achieved a significant milestone with its first electric bus model, the eSpace9, receiving the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) Compliance Certificate from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). This certification paves the way for the commercial rollout of the eSpace9—a 9-meter, intra-city electric bus designed to support India’s transition to clean and sustainable urban mobility.

What is the eSpace9?

The Neuton eSpace9 is a compact, state-of-the-art electric bus engineered for city transport. Key features and specifications include:

  • Length: 9,365 mm (9 meters)
  • Seating Capacity: 34 passengers + driver (2×2 configuration)
  • Monocoque Frame: Lightweight yet robust for urban conditions
  • Battery: 202 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery
  • Charging: DC fast charging, full charge in 2 hours with external charger
  • Gross Vehicle Weight: 13,500 kg
  • Floor Height: 900 mm (low-floor design for easy boarding)
  • Air Conditioning: Available
  • Door System: Electro-pneumatic for efficient passenger flow
  • Compliance: AIS052 bus structure standards

Certification Significance

The CMVR Compliance Certificate from ARAI is a mandatory requirement for commercial vehicles in India, ensuring that the eSpace9 meets all safety, performance, and emission standards set by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This certification allows Neuton Auto to begin commercial production, sales, and deployment of the eSpace9 for city bus operations across India.

Supporting India’s Green Mobility Goals

The eSpace9’s launch aligns with national and state-level initiatives to decarbonize public transport, reduce urban air pollution, and promote electric vehicle adoption. With zero tailpipe emissions, each eSpace9 bus can help reduce CO2 emissions by up to 165 tons per year. The model’s efficient design and fast-charging capability make it well-suited for high-frequency, intra-city routes.

Neuton Auto’s achievement also reflects the growing momentum in India’s electric bus segment, supported by government policies such as FAME, the PM-eBus Sewa scheme, and production-linked incentives for EV manufacturers. The company, led by co-founder and chairman Shridhar Kalmadi—an industry pioneer in monocoque bus technology—aims to drive innovation and quality in India’s electric bus market.

Outlook

With the CMVR certification secured, Neuton Auto is poised to advance clean public transportation in India’s cities. The eSpace9’s blend of advanced technology, robust design, and compliance with national standards positions it as a strong contender in the growing electric bus market.
