Ather Rizta Surpasses 100,000 Sales, Drives Record Growth and Market Expansion for Ather Energy

Greaves Electric Mobility

ATHER

Ather Energy’s family-focused electric scooter, the Rizta, has crossed the 100,000-unit sales mark in less than a year since deliveries began in July 2024. This rapid success has transformed Ather’s growth path, turning the Rizta into its best-selling product and a major force behind its record-breaking FY2025 performance.

Rizta Fuels Ather’s Sales Surge

Launched in April 2024 and delivered from July, the Rizta quickly became a favorite among Indian families looking for a practical, comfortable electric scooter. By the end of April 2025, Ather had sold 99,691 units, needing just 309 more to hit the 100,000 mark—which it crossed in early May 2025.

In FY2025, the Rizta made up 58% of Ather’s total sales of 155,405 units. It far outpaced the:

  • 450X (28%),
  • 450S (12%), and
  • 450 Apex (1.5%) models.

This dominance continued into FY2026, with 10,052 Rizta units sold in April 2025—a staggering 73% share of Ather’s monthly sales. By the end of May 2025, cumulative sales are expected to cross 110,000 units.

Impact on Market Reach and Share

The Rizta’s strong appeal has helped Ather expand beyond its traditional southern markets. Earlier, the brand saw most of its sales from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. However, the Rizta has boosted sales in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and northern regions, including Delhi.

In Q4 FY2025, Ather’s national market share climbed to 15%, with the Rizta playing a major role. CEO Tarun Mehta noted that sales in non-southern states have nearly doubled. For instance:

  • In Maharashtra, market share grew from 5% to 12%
  • In Gujarat, it surged from 5% to 25% by December 2024

Rizta’s Positioning and Features

Ather developed the Rizta to target the mass-market family segment, directly challenging rivals like the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Hero Vida. Some key highlights include:

  • India’s largest two-wheeler seat
  • 34-litre under-seat storage
  • Three variants:
    • Rizta S (2.9 kWh, 123 km range)
    • Rizta Z 2.9
    • Rizta Z 3.7 (3.7 kWh, 160 km range)
  • Quick acceleration: 0–40 km/h in 4.7 seconds
  • Advanced features:
    • Digital console
    • Emergency Stop Signal
    • Skid Control
    • Fall-Safe shutdown
    • WhatsApp notifications
    • Alexa voice commands

Prices range from ₹1,04,999 to ₹1,42,000. The Rizta also won the 2025 Autocar India Electric Two-Wheeler of the Year award for its blend of innovation and practicality.

Changing Product Dynamics

The Rizta’s popularity has led to a decline in demand for Ather’s 450 Series. CEO Tarun Mehta acknowledged this trend, noting that many customers who earlier opted for the 450X due to limited choices now prefer the more family-friendly Rizta.

As volumes grow, Ather expects its product mix to resemble industry norms—where family scooters dominate the two-wheeler EV space.

Future Outlook: Rizta to Lead Ather’s Growth

With over 350 experience centers across India and further expansion underway, Ather is well-positioned for sustained growth. The Rizta is expected to remain the flagship product throughout FY2026. Additionally, Ather is developing a low-cost electric scooter platform to attract budget-conscious consumers.

Ultimately, the Rizta’s phenomenal success reflects the rising demand for premium yet practical electric scooters in India’s evolving two-wheeler landscape.
