India’s public transport electrification journey is gathering momentum, with Rajasthan emerging as one of the latest states to accelerate the transition. The Rajasthan Government has launched the first phase of its electric bus deployment programme with EKA Mobility, marking a significant step towards cleaner and more sustainable urban transportation.

Rajasthan Bets Big on Electric Public Transport

The rollout was flagged off by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma in Jaipur and forms part of a larger order for 876 electric buses awarded to EKA Mobility in consortium with Chartered Speed under the PM e-Bus Sewa initiative.

The deployment will help strengthen public transport networks while supporting the state’s clean mobility objectives.

Key highlights of the project:

• 876 electric buses planned across the state
• Deployment across eight cities in Rajasthan
• Partnership between EKA Mobility and Chartered Speed
• Implementation under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme

The project reflects the increasing role of state governments in driving large-scale clean mobility adoption.

Built for Accessibility and Operational Efficiency

The electric buses are based on EKA Mobility’s dedicated EV platform and are equipped with features designed to improve passenger experience and fleet performance.

Key features include:

• Zero tailpipe emissions
• Integrated fleet management systems
• Wheelchair lift door mechanism
• Enhanced accessibility for differently-abled passengers

These additions are expected to support both sustainability and inclusivity objectives while improving operational efficiency for fleet operators.

The Bigger Industry Signal

The Rajasthan deployment demonstrates how electric buses are moving beyond pilot projects and becoming a mainstream part of urban transport planning. As governments continue investing in cleaner mobility solutions, large-scale e-bus deployments are expected to play a major role in reducing emissions, lowering operating costs, and modernising public transport systems across India.

With multiple states now adopting electric buses under central government initiatives, public transport electrification is emerging as one of the strongest drivers of India’s EV transition.
