Jindal Stainless has deployed 10 electric trucks for finished goods transportation, marking a significant step in its efforts to decarbonise logistics operations. The trucks will operate between the company’s Jajpur plant in Odisha and Kharagpur and Kolkata in West Bengal.

Announced on October 15, 2026, the initiative forms part of the company’s broader strategy to adopt electric and alternative-fuel vehicles across its supply chain.

Jindal Stainless Expands Its Green Fleet

Alongside the new electric trucks, Jindal Stainless is expanding its use of alternative-fuel vehicles to reduce dependence on diesel-powered transportation.

Its existing green mobility initiatives include:

  • 80 LNG trucks transporting finished goods from Jajpur and Hisar to western India.
  • CNG trucks transporting import cargo from Dhamra port to Jajpur.
  • 60 CNG buses supporting employee transportation at its Hisar and Jajpur facilities.

Together, these initiatives are expected to handle approximately 8,000–10,000 tonnes of cargo monthly.

71 Tonnes of CO₂ Savings Expected Every Month

According to the company, its green transportation programme is expected to deliver measurable environmental benefits compared with conventional diesel-based logistics.

Key projected outcomes include:

  • 71 tonnes of CO₂ emissions saved monthly.
  • 8,000–9,000 tonnes of monthly green dispatch volume.
  • Approximately 240,000 km of equivalent truck travel.
  • An estimated 26% reduction in emissions compared with diesel transportation.

These figures are based on modelled operating conditions and the combined impact of its electric and alternative-fuel transportation initiatives.

Jindal Stainless Targets Sustainable Supply Chains

Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal highlighted the importance of extending decarbonisation beyond manufacturing to logistics and supply chain operations. The company plans to expand electric and alternative-fuel vehicle deployment across suitable routes, depending on operational requirements.

The initiative complements its broader sustainability efforts, including improving energy efficiency, increasing renewable energy adoption and promoting resource circularity.

Founded in 1970, Jindal Stainless has an annual melt capacity of 4.2 million tonnes and reported a turnover of ₹42,955 crore in FY2026. Its latest electric truck deployment reinforces the growing role of cleaner commercial vehicles in industrial freight transportation.
