In a bold move to accelerate the shift to electric mobility in last-mile delivery, Indofast Energy and EVeez have joined forces to deploy 20,000 electric bikes across India in the next 24 months. This initiative will also expand the battery-swapping network in Tier I and Tier II cities, supporting delivery operations in e-commerce, food delivery, and quick commerce.
Boosting Urban Logistics with Battery-Swapping Tech
The deployment will begin in major cities including Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Vijayawada. By enhancing infrastructure, the project aims to improve fleet uptime and reduce operational delays for gig workers and delivery partners.
This collaboration builds on an existing alliance between the companies. It marks a key milestone in developing a scalable energy-as-a-service model for India’s urban logistics ecosystem. The goal is to lower costs, reduce downtime, and empower delivery professionals—the core workforce behind the logistics boom.
Indofast Energy’s Infrastructure Advantage
Currently, Indofast operates over 900 battery-swapping stations across 22 cities. These perform nearly 1.2 million swaps monthly. The company uses an OEM-agnostic Battery-as-a-Service model, which supports two-, three-, and small four-wheelers. This setup allows a fully depleted battery to be swapped for a charged one in less than a minute—eliminating charging wait times and range anxiety.
“We perform over 40,000 swaps every day,” said Rajat Malhan, SVP at Indofast Energy. “This partnership is about building a future-proof energy ecosystem. By 2030, we envision a city-wide network that powers delivery, ride-hailing, and more—driving India closer to its net-zero goals.”
EVeez Empowers Gig Workers Through eMaaS
EVeez currently manages a fleet of 7,000 e-bikes in 9 cities. Through its electric mobility as a service (eMaaS) platform, it provides subscription-based EV access to gig workers and businesses. This model removes the burden of upfront vehicle costs and maintenance.
“We’re scaling aggressively into Tier II cities,” said Gaurav Rathore, Co-founder and CEO of EVeez. “This partnership allows us to address rising demand from quick commerce and logistics while creating better income opportunities for thousands of gig workers.”
Joint Vision for a Greener, Inclusive Future
The strategic alliance benefits from strong industry backing. Indofast Energy is a joint venture between IndianOil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and SUN Mobility. Their infrastructure-first strategy aligns with EVeez’s service-oriented approach, offering a well-rounded solution for India’s growing urban mobility needs.
As e-commerce continues to grow rapidly in India, the need for efficient, affordable, and eco-friendly delivery is more pressing than ever. The planned deployment of 20,000 e-bikes will support India’s electrification goals while enhancing the resilience of its gig economy.
This partnership is more than a fleet expansion—it’s a step toward cleaner cities, stronger livelihoods, and smarter mobility infrastructure.
