Jupiter Electric Mobility, the electric vehicle arm of Jupiter Wagons Limited, has entered a strategic partnership with Delhi-based logistics platform Pickkup to deploy 300 JEM TEZ electric light commercial vehicles (e-LCVs) by the end of 2025. This initiative directly supports the Government of India’s PM E-DRIVE scheme, which is accelerating electric vehicle adoption in commercial transportation to reduce emissions and enhance energy security.
Partnership Details and Vehicle Capabilities
The memorandum of understanding follows successful pilot runs, where the JEM TEZ e-LCVs demonstrated a range of 190–220 kilometers per charge across urban and intercity routes, including the Delhi–Chandigarh corridor. Key features of the JEM TEZ include:
- Payload capacity of 1,050 kg, suitable for urban and mid-mile logistics
- CCS2 fast-charging compatibility, enabling over 100 km range in one hour
- Peak motor power of 80 kW and 23% gradeability for varied terrains
- Advanced telematics, dual drive modes, and robust safety features
The vehicles are manufactured at Jupiter Electric Mobility’s Pithampur, Indore facility, which has a production capacity of 8,000–10,000 e-LCVs annually, with plans for future expansion.
Pickkup’s Expansion and Clean Logistics Focus
Pickkup, established four years ago, operates a fleet of electric three- and four-wheelers across NCR cities and tier-2 markets such as Mohali and Chandigarh. The company recently secured $500,000 in seed funding to scale operations and technology. To date, Pickkup has completed over 150,000 km of deliveries using electric vehicles and employs more than 100 people, offering on-demand, corporate, and warehouse logistics solutions.
The partnership with Jupiter Electric Mobility allows Pickkup to:
- Expand its electric fleet for last-mile and mid-mile deliveries
- Support India’s clean mobility goals under the PM E-DRIVE scheme
- Reduce operational costs and carbon emissions in logistics
Industry Context and Government Initiatives
India’s logistics sector is witnessing rapid electrification, with EV penetration in commercial fleets expected to reach 14% by 2030 The PM E-DRIVE scheme, with a financial outlay of ₹10,900 crore, prioritizes the adoption of electric commercial vehicles, providing incentives for e-LCVs, e-trucks, and e-buses to accelerate the shift to sustainable transport.
Electric commercial vehicles like the JEM TEZ offer significant advantages for logistics operators, including:
- Lower total cost of ownership compared to ICE vehicles
- Enhanced efficiency for urban and intercity deliveries
- Compliance with evolving environmental regulations and corporate ESG commitments
Jupiter Electric Mobility’s Broader Strategy
Jupiter Electric Mobility is actively expanding its footprint in India’s e-LCV market through partnerships, pilot programs, and ecosystem development. The company’s Pithampur facility supports end-to-end manufacturing, aligning with Make in India and Vision@2047 initiatives. Jupiter Electric Mobility also collaborates with logistics platforms and fleet operators to create integrated EV ecosystems, including charging infrastructure and after-sales support.
Outlook
The deployment of 300 JEM TEZ vehicles with Pickkup marks a significant milestone in India’s logistics electrification journey. As more logistics operators adopt electric commercial vehicles, the sector is set to benefit from reduced emissions, lower operating costs, and improved sustainability. The partnership exemplifies how industry collaboration and supportive government policies are propelling India towards its clean mobility and net-zero targets.
