India’s growing shift toward electric mobility is driving stronger public demand for better charging infrastructure and reliable local roads. According to the Ipsos-GIIA Global Infrastructure Index 2026, EV charging stations and local road networks are among the country’s leading infrastructure investment priorities.
EV Charging Demand Surges
The survey found that 44% of Indian respondents consider EV charging infrastructure a key national investment priority—more than double the global average of 21%.
Local road development and maintenance also received strong support, with 44% prioritizing local roads, compared with 33% for major highways and motorways.

India Ranks Second in Infrastructure Satisfaction
India recorded an overall infrastructure satisfaction rate of 69%, placing it second among the 29 countries surveyed, behind Singapore at 74% and significantly above the global average of 38%.
However, the findings highlight that citizens want greater attention toward maintaining existing infrastructure alongside new development.
Clean Energy and Digital Infrastructure in Focus
Ipsos India CEO Suresh Ramalingam said public priorities closely align with India’s long-term development goals, particularly in water infrastructure, clean energy and digital infrastructure.
The survey also showed strong support for private participation, with 64% of Indian respondents backing higher infrastructure spending even if it requires increased taxes or consumer fees.
A Boost for India’s EV Transition
The findings underline the need for a stronger and more accessible charging ecosystem as EV adoption expands. Better local roads, reliable charging networks and continued infrastructure investment could play a crucial role in supporting India’s evolving electric mobility landscape.
