The report shows major progress in the power sector.
India’s installed power capacity reached 500.89 GW by September 2025.
More than 51% of this capacity now comes from non-fossil energy sources.
This shift shows strong growth in clean energy adoption.

In 2025, India added over 44.5 GW of renewable power.
Most of this growth came from solar energy.
Solar capacity crossed 100 GW, while wind crossed 50 GW.

DISCOM Efficiency and Revenue Performance Improve

Power distribution companies showed better operational results.
AT&C losses reduced to 15.04% in FY25.
This decline shows better network efficiency.
Billing efficiency improved to 87.59% across utilities.
Collection efficiency reached 97%, improving revenue recovery.

Financial results also showed strong recovery.
The sector recorded a profit of ₹2,701 crore in FY25.
This is a major shift from the loss recorded in FY24.

Smart Meters and Reforms Support Stability

Digital reforms played a key role in this progress.
About 20.33 crore smart meters were approved nationwide.
Out of these, 5.28 crore meters have been installed.
These meters help improve billing accuracy and tracking.

Subsidy realization also improved to 98.9%.
This helped utilities maintain better cash flow.
As a result, DISCOM finances are becoming more stable.
