JSW Motors Limited has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Indian Institute of Skills (Tata IIS) to establish a structured technical training programme for its upcoming electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
The agreement, signed in Mumbai on February 26, 2026, is aimed at building a skilled workforce ahead of the commissioning of the greenfield EV plant.
Curriculum Focused on EV Systems and Advanced Manufacturing
The programme’s curriculum has been co-developed by both organisations and will cover EV systems, battery systems, automation, welding, CNC operations, and advanced manufacturing processes.
JSW Motors will retain hiring control and curriculum validation rights to ensure that the training remains closely aligned with production requirements and plant ramp-up timelines. The company has positioned skilling as a strategic business imperative rather than a standalone HR function.
Selection and Institutional Backing
Tata IIS was selected after a competitive evaluation of skilling institutions across India. Key selection criteria included training infrastructure, OEM engagement track record, and hands-on, application-based methodology.
Tata IIS operates as a not-for-profit institution in collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, with campuses in Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
Long-Term Skilling Roadmap
JSW Motors has indicated that its skilling initiatives will eventually extend beyond plant workers to suppliers, vendor partners, dealer networks, and customers. The company also plans to establish an in-house training academy focused on advanced manufacturing and future mobility technologies as it scales operations.
As India expands its EV manufacturing footprint, structured workforce development partnerships are becoming essential to ensure operational readiness, production quality, and long-term competitiveness.
