Hydrogen-natural gas blending to advance India’s energy transition
Desco Infratech, KPI Green Hydrogen and Ammonia—a KP Group company—and Naveriya Gas have announced a strategic partnership to develop hydrogen-natural gas blending projects for India’s city gas distribution (CGD) sector. The collaboration aims to build cleaner fuel infrastructure and reduce reliance on imported LNG, marking a key step toward India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and net-zero goals.
Under this partnership, KPI Green Hydrogen and Ammonia will produce green hydrogen, while Desco Infratech will offer engineering and technological expertise to blend hydrogen with natural gas. Naveriya Gas will manage integration into existing CGD networks to ensure a stable, sustainable energy supply.
A step toward decarbonizing city gas networks
The initiative is designed to reduce carbon emissions and efficiently utilize India’s vast city gas infrastructure. Hydrogen blending allows for progressive decarbonization without large-scale pipeline replacements, enabling a faster and more cost-effective transition to cleaner fuels. According to Desco Infratech Whole-Time Director Malhar P. Desai, the project demonstrates how collaboration between technology providers and energy distributors can accelerate India’s shift to green fuels.
Industry collaboration for green infrastructure
Surat-based Desco Infratech provides infrastructure solutions across power, renewables, and city gas sectors. KPI Green Hydrogen and Ammonia, a wholly owned subsidiary of KP Group, focuses on producing green hydrogen at scale. Together with Naveriya Gas, the partnership is poised to strengthen India’s position in the global hydrogen economy and open new pathways for sustainable industrial growth.
