MG Motor India is preparing to launch an updated version of its popular Windsor EV next month. This comes just eight months after the model’s debut. The biggest upgrade is a larger battery pack, which will likely make the Windsor even more attractive to EV buyers in India.
Larger Battery for Longer Range
The current Windsor EV uses a 38kWh battery. Soon, MG will introduce a 50.6kWh battery option. This is the same setup available in Indonesia under the Wuling Cloud EV name.
The new battery promises a range of 460km on the CLTC cycle. This is a big jump from the existing ARAI-certified range of 332km.
Despite the battery upgrade, the Windsor’s motor will remain the same. It will continue to offer 136hp of power, 200Nm of torque, and a front-wheel-drive layout.
New Features and ADAS Technology
Along with the new battery, MG will also update the Windsor’s feature list. Sources suggest it will get an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package.
This update will make the Windsor a more tech-savvy option in India’s growing EV market. New features will also improve the car’s appeal for both city driving and longer trips.
Real-World Performance and Efficiency
In real-world conditions, the current Windsor EV has shown impressive performance. It achieved 8.1km per kWh and a real-world range of 308km. This is only 24km less than its official figure.
For comparison, the Tata Nexon EV, with its 45kWh battery, managed a 350km range but at a lower efficiency of 7.79km/kWh.
With the new 50.6kWh battery, the Windsor could realistically offer close to 400km of range during typical use. This will make it a strong choice for longer intercity trips.
Strong Sales Growth in India
Since its launch in September 2024, the MG Windsor has strengthened MG’s presence in the Indian EV space. Between September 2024 and March 2025, MG sold 19,394 units of the Windsor, averaging over 2,700 units per month.
The Windsor has consistently outsold its main rival, the Tata Nexon EV, which had led the segment for a long time. The larger battery version is expected to boost Windsor’s sales momentum even further.
Currently, the Windsor is priced between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). The new variant may cost a little more, but the better range and features will likely justify the price hike.
