SWITCH Mobility has secured an order for 840 electric buses under the Government of India’s PM E-Drive scheme, with the vehicles set to strengthen Delhi’s public transport electrification.
840 Electric Buses to Be Deployed in Delhi
The order has been placed by Antony Road Transport Solutions under Phase I of the PM E-Drive scheme. The buses will be deployed through the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and the Delhi Transport Department.
The order includes:
- 420 9-metre AC electric buses
- 420 12-metre AC electric buses
- Deployment across Delhi
- Supply based on SWITCH Mobility’s EiV platform
An agreement for the deployment has been signed between SWITCH Mobility and Antony Road Transport Solutions.
EiV Platform Brings Advanced Electric Technology
The buses are built around SWITCH Mobility’s EiV platform, featuring technologies designed for urban fleet operations.
Key features include:
- Modular battery configurations
- Electric powertrains with regenerative braking
- Dual-gun fast charging for shorter charging turnaround
- Low-floor passenger access
- USB charging facilities
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Multi-level battery protection
The buses will also use SWITCH iON, the company’s digital platform for real-time vehicle monitoring, diagnostics and fleet management.
Two Bus Sizes for Different Transport Needs
The combination of 9-metre and 12-metre buses is intended to support different passenger-demand and route requirements across Delhi.
SWITCH Mobility CEO Ganesh Mani said the deployment of both bus sizes would help address varying public transport requirements.
Antony Road Transport Solutions Director Jimmy John said the company’s existing relationship with Ashok Leyland and its association with the Hinduja Group contributed to its decision to place the order.
A Major Step for Delhi’s Electric Public Transport
The agreement brings together SWITCH Mobility as the electric bus manufacturer, Antony Road Transport Solutions as the fleet operator, and Delhi’s public transport authorities for large-scale electric bus deployment.
The order highlights the continuing expansion of electric buses in India’s urban public transport system under government-supported electrification programmes.
