Odisha is planning an 871-acre semiconductor and electronics manufacturing hub near Naraj, between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, as the state expands its chip manufacturing ecosystem. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has described the proposed development as an “Odisha Silicon Valley.”
Speaking at Semicon India 2026, Majhi said Odisha is creating a land bank for the hub and has held discussions with around 10-12 companies to attract semiconductor and electronics investments.
SiC Project Adds EV Focus
The proposed hub comes alongside SiCSem’s silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor project, which is being developed with UK-based Clas-SiC Wafer Fab. The project has been approved under the India Semiconductor Mission.
The facility is planned with:
- 60,000 wafers annual fabrication capacity
- 96 million units annual packaging capacity
- Applications spanning EVs, fast chargers, railways and solar inverters
- SiC diodes and MOSFETs for power-electronics applications
Silicon carbide is increasingly used in EV power electronics, particularly traction inverters and power-conversion systems, due to its efficiency at higher voltages.
Rs 3,406 Crore Manufacturing Facility
On September 15, the Falta Special Economic Zone Unit Approval Committee approved SiCSem’s semiconductor manufacturing unit at IDCO Infovalley-II in Khordha district.
The 21.889-acre facility involves an investment of Rs 3,406.25 crore and is expected to create 1,270 jobs. Planned annual output includes 4.8 million SiC diodes and 91.2 million SiC MOSFETs.
Odisha Builds Wider Semiconductor Ecosystem
Odisha is also developing a Rs 1,943 crore advanced semiconductor packaging facility by 3D Glass Solutions, targeting 50 million assembled units annually.
Meanwhile, SiCSem and IIT Bhubaneswar are working on indigenous SiC crystal growth technologies for 150mm and 200mm wafers, strengthening domestic power-semiconductor capabilities.
The proposed Naraj hub could further expand this ecosystem by attracting semiconductor and electronics manufacturers, creating a broader industrial base for EVs, charging infrastructure and other high-tech applications.
