MG Motor India has added a touch of darkness to its entry-level electric vehicle lineup with the launch of the Comet EV Blackstorm Edition. Priced from Rs 7.8 lakh (with Battery as a Service option), this special edition brings an exclusive all-black aesthetic and subtle upgrades to the micro electric vehicle.

The Dark Side of Electric Mobility

The Blackstorm Edition stands out with its exclusive Starry Black exterior finish, complemented by striking red accents that give the compact EV a more aggressive personality. Based on the top-spec Exclusive FC trim, the special edition features the “Morris Garages” lettering in red on the front fascia, along with red detailing around the fog lamps and lower bumper sections.

In profile, the Blackstorm Edition sports redesigned alloy wheels with red highlights and special ‘Blackstorm’ badging on the body cladding. While MG hasn’t revealed the rear design yet, it’s expected to continue the black-and-red theme with additional badging.

Cabin Upgrades That Make a Difference

Inside, MG has retained the standard Comet’s dual-tone white and grey dashboard but introduced black fabric seats with “Blackstorm Edition” embossing in red on the front headrests. Beyond the practical advantage of hiding dirt better than the standard light-colored seats, the black upholstery enhances the special edition’s cohesive design theme.

One notable feature upgrade is the sound system, which now includes four speakers instead of the standard two—a welcome improvement for audiophiles.

Familiar Electric Heart

Mechanically, the Blackstorm Edition remains identical to the standard Comet EV, powered by a 17.3 kWh battery delivering a claimed range of 230 km. Its electric motor generates 42 PS of power and 110 Nm of torque, maintaining the same efficient performance that the model is known for.

Premium Positioning

Available exclusively in the top-spec Exclusive FC trim, the Blackstorm Edition commands a premium of Rs 30,000 over the standard model when purchased with the Battery as a Service (BaaS) option, priced at Rs 7.8 lakh compared to Rs 7.5 lakh.

For those opting for complete purchase including the battery, the price difference narrows to just Rs 13,000, with the Blackstorm Edition priced at Rs 9.81 lakh versus the standard Exclusive FC’s Rs 9.68 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

The Blackstorm joins MG’s growing lineup of special black editions, following similar treatments for the Astor, Hector, and Gloster models.

With its modest price premium and distinctive styling, the Comet EV Blackstorm Edition offers urban EV enthusiasts a more expressive option in the growing micro-electric vehicle segment.
