Delhi Cabinet approves extension of the current Electric Vehicle Policy until March 31, 2026, or new policy notification. This decision, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, maintains incentives for e-cars, e-rickshaws, and e-two-wheelers. It allows comprehensive stakeholder consultations on charging infrastructure and subsidies.
EV Ecosystem Growth Under Current Policy
The policy has driven 86,000+ EV registrations since 2020. New vehicle sales hit 17.4% EV penetration by May 2024. Charging networks expanded significantly across the city.
EV Policy 2.0 Draft Proposals
Draft eyes banning new CNG auto registrations from August 15, 2025, and petrol/diesel/CNG two-wheelers from August 15, 2026. It promotes EVs under ₹25 lakh for subsidies while costlier models pay full taxes. Plans include battery recycling chains, swappable stations, and e-bus boosts for last-mile delivery.
Stakeholder Role in Policy Evolution
Consultations engage citizens, industry, experts, and institutions on e-waste mechanisms and public-private partnerships. The approach targets 95% new registrations as EVs by 2027 in some drafts. It supports job creation up to 20,000 and aligns with Delhi’s 2030 net-zero ambitions.
