Minimines to Establish ₹350 Crore Critical Minerals Refining Complex in Karnataka

Greaves Electric Mobility

Strengthening India’s Battery and Clean-Tech Raw Material Supply

Minimines has announced a major investment of ₹350 crore to set up a critical minerals refining complex in Karnataka. The project marks a significant step in developing India’s domestic supply chain for battery-grade materials, a key requirement as the country accelerates its electric mobility and renewable energy transition. The facility will refine core minerals such as lithium, cobalt and nickel, essential for advanced lithium-ion batteries and energy storage applications.

Advanced Processing for Battery-Grade Output

The upcoming complex will deploy advanced refining processes aimed at delivering high-purity materials that meet stringent global quality standards. Minimines plans to target customers across the EV ecosystem, including two-wheeler, three-wheeler and passenger vehicle manufacturers, as well as grid-scale energy storage providers. The company is positioning the facility as an enabler for reliable and sustainable mineral processing, aligning with global ESG practices.

By building refining capabilities within India, the company aims to address long-standing gaps in the upstream battery value chain. Localising the conversion of mined minerals into battery-ready material will help reduce reliance on imports, shorten supply timelines, and improve cost efficiencies for Indian OEMs.

Supporting Karnataka’s Emerging Clean-Tech Manufacturing Hub

Karnataka has emerged as a preferred destination for clean-tech manufacturing, and Minimines’ investment adds further momentum. The state offers strong industrial infrastructure, logistics networks and policy support, making it conducive for large-scale mineral processing operations. The refining complex is expected to contribute to job creation, technology development and supply-chain strengthening in the region.

Minimines’ move comes at a time when global demand for critical minerals is expanding rapidly. With India’s EV and renewable energy sectors growing, the development of domestic refining capabilities is crucial for long-term strategic resilience. The Karnataka facility positions the company to cater to both current and future demand across mobility and clean-energy industries.
