Himachal Pradesh Approves 402 New EV Charging Stations Across Mountain State

Himachal Pradesh EV Policy

April 11th, 2025

Himachal Pradesh is set to boost its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with 402 new charging stations. The state government recently approved this plan to create a wide-reaching network of charging points across various government properties.

Charging Stations to Pop Up at Government Sites

The new charging stations will appear at:

  • 252 Public Works Department (PWD) rest houses
  • 100 Forest Department rest houses
  • 19 Jal Shakti rest houses
  • 18 Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) buildings
  • 12 District Collector and Superintendent of Police offices
  • 1 Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh Development Authority office

This spread ensures EV drivers can find charging points even in Himachal’s remote areas.

Supporting the Switch to Electric Vehicles

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu explained, “We aim to build an efficient EV charging network across Himachal. This will help government departments use more EVs and encourage cleaner transportation.”

The state has already seen 4,997 EVs registered. Moreover, 500 electric taxis will soon join various government fleets under a new e-taxi program.

Green Highways and More Charging Points

Himachal Pradesh has also named six highways as “green corridors.” These routes will get priority for new charging stations. The state plans to add chargers at petrol pumps, government-run hotels, and private hospitality businesses too.

Currently, 23 petrol pumps offer EV charging. By the end of 2025, this number will grow to 113, as 90 more pumps install charging equipment.

This extensive charging network marks a big step towards making EVs practical in Himachal Pradesh’s challenging mountain terrain.
