Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest motorcycle maker, will launch its most affordable electric scooter—the Vida Z (expected to be branded as Vida VX2)—on July 1, 2025. This new model marks a crucial attempt by Hero to reclaim market share in the electric two-wheeler space, where rivals TVS and Bajaj have taken the lead.

Closing the Gap: Hero’s Market Push

Despite dominating the conventional two-wheeler market, Hero ranks only fifth in EV scooters. TVS and Bajaj have pulled ahead with strong offerings and nationwide dealer networks. In response, Hero is accelerating product development and expanding its EV reach. The launch of the Vida Z is central to this strategy.

Vida Z: Features, Pricing, and Positioning

The Vida Z—likely to be Hero’s most affordable electric scooter yet—is expected to be priced around ₹1 lakh. It is built on a modular platform that supports battery capacities from 2.2 kWh to 4.4 kWh. A permanent magnet synchronous motor powers the scooter. Notably, it includes a removable battery, offering greater flexibility for users without home charging setups.

Key Features:

  • Removable battery for flexible and convenient charging
  • Multiple battery options with varied range
  • Digital display with connected features
  • LED lighting and regenerative braking
  • Simple, family-oriented design

The Vida Z will target cost-conscious buyers. It will compete with TVS iQube 2.2 kWh, Bajaj Chetak 2903, and Ola S1X—all strong performers in the sub-₹1 lakh EV scooter segment.

Current Performance and EV Network

In May 2025, Hero sold 8,361 Vida scooters, increasing its market share to 7.2%, up from 7% in April. The Vida network now spans 203 touchpoints, including 180 dealerships across 116 cities. It also benefits from over 3,100 fast-charging stations, thanks to a partnership with Ather Energy.

Hero currently manufactures 7,000 EV units per month and plans to scale production to 13,000–15,000 units after the Vida Z rollout. In FY2025, it sold 48,673 Vida scooters, marking a 175% year-on-year increase.

Competitive Landscape: How Hero Compares

The sub-₹1 lakh EV scooter market is packed with competition:

Bajaj Chetak 2903₹99,998123 km63 km/h2.9 kWh
Ola S1X Range₹65,499–₹92,999Up to 242 kmUp to 123 km/hMultiple

Hero’s removable battery gives it an edge in charging convenience—an attractive feature for urban users with limited home infrastructure. Additionally, Hero’s trusted service network enhances its value proposition.

Market Outlook: Time to Catch Up

India’s electric two-wheeler market grew by 21% in FY2025, hitting 1.15 million units. Traditional players like TVS and Bajaj are steadily gaining ground against early EV leaders like Ola Electric and Ather.

Hero’s upcoming Vida Z is timed to tap into this growth. As EV penetration is projected to hit 30% by 2025, capturing buyers in the affordable segment is critical. The July 1 launch could either revive Hero’s position or confirm its struggle to keep pace in the EV era.
