Honda Launches E-VO: Its First Full-Size Electric Motorcycle in China

Greaves Electric Mobility

Honda

Honda has officially unveiled the E-VO, its first full-size electric motorcycle, in China. Developed with Wuyang-Honda, this launch marks a significant milestone in Honda’s global push toward electrification. For now, the E-VO is available exclusively in the Chinese market.

Striking Design Meets Modern Engineering

The E-VO draws inspiration from classic café racer aesthetics. It features round headlights, bar-end mirrors, and a sleek half-shell fairing. Despite its retro appearance, the motorcycle is built on a forged all-aluminium frame—lightweight, durable, and ideal for city roads.

It rides on a 16-inch front wheel and a 14-inch rear wheel, both equipped with semi-slick tyres to boost traction. Its low seat height of 765 mm ensures comfort and accessibility for a wide range of riders.

Two Battery Options with Quick Charging and Swapping

Honda offers two battery configurations for the E-VO to suit different needs:

1) 4.1 kWh Dual-Battery Variant

  • Range: 120 km
  • Kerb Weight: 143 kg
  • Charging Time: 1–1.5 hours (using a car or home charger)

2) 6.2 kWh Triple-Battery Variant

  • Range: 170 km
  • Kerb Weight: 156 kg
  • Charging Time: 1.5–2.5 hours (fast or home charger)

Both versions support Honda’s battery swapping technology, allowing quick and convenient battery changes at roadside stations.

Performance and Safety Features

The E-VO is powered by a 15.8 kW (21 hp) electric motor, reaching a top speed of 120 km/h. It includes:

  • Upside-down telescopic fork (front)
  • Central suspension strut (rear)
  • Dual-channel ABS for safety
  • Regenerative braking
  • Three riding modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport

These features give riders full control over performance and battery consumption.

Advanced Tech for Modern Riders

Honda has packed the E-VO with user-friendly features:

  • Dual 7-inch TFT displays – One for riding data, the other for navigation, music, TPMS, and battery status
  • Integrated dashcams – Front cam on the 4.1 kWh variant, front and rear cams on the 6.2 kWh version
  • Smart connectivity – Allows access to essential functions directly from the dashboard
  • Color Options – Available in black and white

Pricing and Availability

  • 4.1 kWh Variant – CNY 30,000 (approx. ₹3.56 lakh)
  • 6.2 kWh Variant – CNY 37,000 (approx. ₹4.39 lakh)

Currently, the E-VO is sold only in China. However, Honda is building a dedicated electric vehicle plant in India, expected to be operational by 2028. This could pave the way for India-specific electric motorcycles in the near future.

A Key Step in Honda’s EV Strategy

Honda’s E-VO combines retro charm with cutting-edge technology. It’s a bold entry into the electric motorcycle market and sets the stage for further innovations. With plans to expand EV production globally, this launch strengthens Honda’s role in shaping the future of clean mobility.
