Massive manufacturing footprint in Nagpur
Mahindra & Mahindra has announced a ₹15,000 crore decade-long investment plan to expand its manufacturing base in Maharashtra, centring on a new integrated automobile and tractor facility in Nagpur. The investment commitment, revealed at the Advantage Vidarbha event a flagship regional industrial promotion platform is the company’s largest in India to date and underscores its focus on manufacturing scale and flexibility.
The Nagpur complex will be developed over 1,500 acres in the Vidarbha region, supported by a 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar designed to strengthen localised production and logistics efficiency. The plant is slated to begin production in 2028 and, once fully operational, will have an annual output capacity exceeding 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors, making it Mahindra’s most significant integrated facility in the country.
Multi-powertrain capability and global production scope
The facility will support production of vehicles across multiple powertrain lines, including internal combustion engine (ICE), electric vehicles (EVs) and future technology platforms, catering to evolving product portfolios and international market demand. It will feature advanced automation and digital manufacturing systems to deliver scale, quality and operational efficiency. The plant will also manufacture products on Mahindra’s next-generation architectures such as the NU_IQ platform, enhancing production flexibility for both domestic sales and exports.
To further bolster capacity and advanced technology capabilities, Mahindra plans to acquire additional land in the Igatpuri–Nashik region. This expansion will support engine and product manufacturing as well as growth of its Advanced Technology division. More than 2,000 acres across three locations are expected to be added as part of this broader manufacturing strategy.
Economic impact and regional growth
Maharashtra is strategically positioned with strong road and rail links — including connectivity via the Samruddhi Expressway — offering access to key domestic and export markets. The investment is poised to generate significant employment, attract supplier investments, and reinforce the state’s standing as a leading automotive manufacturing hub. The supplier park will serve both the new facility and Mahindra’s existing plants in Chakan and Nashik, creating synergies across operations and the automotive value chain.
