IONIQ Forest Milestone Achieved
Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) planted one million trees across 90.5 acres near Talegaon, Pune, under its IONIQ Forest initiative. The project utilized the Miyawaki method, enabling dense, fast-growing forests with 41 native species. This marks one of Maharashtra’s largest single-site urban forests, completed in under a year.
Miyawaki Technique Drives Rapid Impact
The Miyawaki method, developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, creates biodiverse ecosystems 10 times faster than traditional planting. It promotes self-sustaining forests that attract wildlife and improve soil health. Projections indicate the site will sequester nearly 63,000 tonnes of CO₂ over five years.
Community and Sustainability Synergy
HMIF engaged over 100 tribal community members, providing green jobs and skill development. Puneet Anand, AVP & Head of Corporate Affairs at HMIL, emphasized it as a benchmark for environmental stewardship amid Hyundai’s growth. The initiative aligns with Hyundai’s RE100 goals and EV push for net-zero mobility.
