Delhi Government Rolls Out New EV Policy with Subsidies, Scrappage Incentives

EV Magazine Issue 10

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a comprehensive new Electric Vehicle policy effective next financial year. The initiative prioritizes subsidies, vehicle scrappage incentives, and neighborhood charging to combat air pollution. Officials aim to make Delhi India’s EV capital by ensuring affordability and convenience.

Subsidies Target Middle-Class Affordability

The policy introduces subsidies bridging the cost gap between EVs and conventional vehicles. Chief Minister Gupta emphasized making EVs as accessible as mobile charging for every middle-class family. A high-level committee finalizes structures, building on past incentives like Rs 30,000 for two-wheelers.

Scrappage and Infrastructure Push

A scrappage scheme rewards citizens scrapping old petrol/diesel vehicles with benefits toward EV purchases. Plans expand charging in residential areas, introduce battery swapping, and streamline approvals. These steps reduce charging times and promote battery disposal.

Pollution Reduction and EV Hub Vision

Wider EV adoption directly cuts PM2.5 and PM10 levels, per Gupta. The policy revives the expired 2020 framework, which offered road tax exemptions. It positions Delhi as a national leader in cleaner mobility.
