A New Era for India’s Light EV Charging Infrastructure
In a significant boost to India’s electric mobility mission, Belectriq has launched its indigenously developed Light Electric Vehicle DC (LEVDC) fast chargers — fully compliant with IS 17017-2-6 and IS 17017-25 standards. Designed specifically for electric two- and three-wheelers, these chargers mark a major milestone in India’s transition toward standardised, interoperable, and locally manufactured charging solutions.
The launch comes just ahead of the government’s PM eDrive scheme, which aims to deploy 48,000 LEVDC chargers across India, accelerating the adoption of light electric vehicles across cities and highways.
Built on Indian Standards — IS 17017-2-6 and IS 17017-25
Belectriq’s new range of chargers follows India’s latest BIS-certified standards:
- IS 17017-2-6: Defines connector and physical interface for Type-6 (LEVDC) chargers.
- IS 17017-25: Specifies CAN-based communication between charger and vehicle BMS, ensuring safe and smart charging.
Available in 3 kW, 6 kW, and 12 kW variants, these chargers feature:
- Fast charging from 20% to 80% in just 20–30 minutes.
- Smart grid compatibility with load management and OCPP integration.
- In-house rectifiers and controllers, making them PMP-compliant under the Make-in-India initiative.
- Robust safety features including isolation monitoring, temperature control, and emergency shutdown.
Interoperability at the Core
Belectriq’s chargers are being tested for cross-compatibility with multiple OEMs to ensure true plug-and-play interoperability. According to Vibhor Mittal, Chief Business Officer at Belectriq, the company is already in discussions with several manufacturers for co-development and custom solutions, making it well-positioned for PM eDrive tenders.
“If both the charger and vehicle OEMs adhere to the standards in totality, interoperability is automatically ensured,” Mittal explained.
Driving India’s EV Future
With LEVDC (Type-6) and LECCS (Type-7) becoming the backbone of India’s light EV charging ecosystem, Belectriq is paving the way for:
- Shared charging hubs for fleets and logistics operators.
- Lower total cost of ownership for EV users.
- A standardised, scalable charging network built on Indian innovation.
Belectriq’s launch signals a defining moment for India’s EV ecosystem—one that blends standardisation, safety, and self-reliance in equal measure.
