IKEA’s parent company, Ingka Group, has taken a major step toward strengthening its sustainability footprint in India by launching a massive ₹1,000 crore solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The 210 MWp solar installation, now ready for construction, marks Ingka Investments’ first renewable energy project in the country and is part of a ₹10 billion clean-energy commitment to India.
A Major Milestone in IKEA’s India Strategy
The upcoming solar park is expected to begin operations by December 2026 and deliver nearly 380 GWh of renewable energy annually, supporting the energy needs of IKEA’s expanding retail and supply chain ecosystem in India.
“This is a milestone acquisition for us,” said Frederik de Jong, Head of Renewable Energy, Ingka Investments. “India is of utmost importance for IKEA retail and our supply chain.”
The project will create significant employment, generating ~450 jobs during construction and 10–15 long-term positions once operational. Ingka Investments has partnered with ib vogt Solar India for development and the first three years of operations.
Sustainability & Expansion Go Hand-in-Hand
Patrik Antoni, CEO, IKEA India, highlighted that sustainability remains core to the company’s mission. Alongside renewable investments, IKEA continues to scale its India retail presence with new stores planned in Gurgaon and Noida following the strong performance of the West Delhi location.
