Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority launched a fleet of heavy electric trucks with battery swapping and set a target to convert 90% of port vehicles to EVs by 2026—aiming to maintain high throughput in a demanding operational environment while cutting emissions.
Battery swapping decouples charging time from asset availability, preserving utilization for time-sensitive cargo and yard logistics. Standardized packs and on-site energy services are designed to minimize dwell time and ensure safety at scale.
The deployment is part of a broader decarbonization arc covering cargo handling, yard movement, and allied services, establishing a replicable model for green port practices. Operational discipline and scale at JNPA provide a strong base for technology adoption and process redesign.
By combining electrification with energy-as-a-service and optimized workflows, JNPA’s initiative offers a blueprint for other ports and industrial corridors seeking measurable emissions reduction alongside operational efficiency.
