Germany’s mobility giant FlixBus is set to transform Indian intercity travel with the country’s first all-electric luxury coach fleet, partnering with Bengaluru-based ETO Motors.
Revolutionizing Interstate Travel
The partnership launches in February 2025 with four zero-emission luxury coaches, equipped with dedicated charging infrastructure along key routes. This marks the first major international bus operator to deploy an all-electric fleet in India’s intercity segment.
Strategic Infrastructure Development
“We’re not just introducing electric buses – we’re building an ecosystem,” says Surya Khurana, FlixBus India’s Managing Director. The initiative includes developing charging corridors along major routes, potentially benefiting the entire EV ecosystem.
Technology Meets Experience
The collaboration combines FlixBus’s global tech-driven operations expertise with ETO Motors’ local EV infrastructure capabilities. “Our vision extends beyond intercity operations to comprehensive mobility solutions,” explains Rajeev YSR, ETO Group’s CMO.
Future Impact
This partnership aligns with India’s ambitious target of 70% commercial vehicle electrification by 2030. The success of this initiative could provide a blueprint for sustainable intercity travel across emerging markets.
What’s Next
As operations begin next month, the industry watches closely. The partnership promises to demonstrate the viability of electric intercity transport while creating standardized charging protocols that could benefit the entire sector.
