Refex Green Mobility partnership signals major push towards zero-emission rides across Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.

Ride-hailing giant Uber is accelerating its electric transition in India through a new partnership with Refex Green Mobility that will deploy 1,000 electric vehicles (EVs) across key metropolitan cities by 2026.
The initiative, announced Tuesday, will introduce zero-emission vehicles under the Refex eVeelz brand in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, expanding Uber’s sustainable transport options in its second-largest global market.
“This strategic collaboration marks a significant milestone in our journey toward emission-free mobility in India,” said Aditya Kapoor, Head of Supply and Electrification at Uber India and South Asia. “By partnering with established EV fleet operators like Refex, we’re building the infrastructure needed to make electric rides both accessible and reliable.”
The partnership forms part of Uber’s global commitment to achieve 100% emission-free rides by 2040, a goal that has gained urgency as India pushes for greater EV adoption amid growing climate concerns and urban pollution challenges.
For Refex Green Mobility, the deal represents an expansion of its existing electric fleet operations. “We already operate nearly 1,300 company-owned four-wheeler EVs across B2B and B2C segments,” noted Sachin Navtosh Jha, Chief of Staff at Refex Group. “This partnership with Uber aligns perfectly with our mission to accelerate sustainable transportation solutions in India’s growing urban centers.”
Charging Ahead in Key Markets
The announcement comes as Uber has already begun rolling out its dedicated all-electric service, Uber Green, in four major Indian cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. The service allows passengers to specifically request zero-emission rides through the app, creating a dedicated customer base for electric vehicles.
Industry analysts suggest the partnership could reshape competition in India’s emerging electric ride-hailing space, where specialized players like BluSmart have built business models centered exclusively around EVs.
“Established ride-hailing platforms entering the EV space with dedicated fleets creates both challenges and opportunities,” said transportation analyst Ravi Menon. “While companies like BluSmart may face increased competition, the overall expansion of electric ride options ultimately accelerates market adoption and infrastructure development.”
Uber, which entered the Indian market in 2013, now operates in 125 cities nationwide and has facilitated over three billion trips. This electric expansion comes as the company seeks to balance growth objectives with sustainability goals in a market increasingly focused on reducing transportation emissions.
Refex Green Mobility, a subsidiary of the broader Refex Group established in 2002, has expanded beyond its initial refrigerant business into multiple sectors including logistics, renewables, healthcare, and retail.
