Narendra Modi Announces Puducherry Electric Bus Deployment; GreenCell Mobility and EKA Mobility Roll Out 75 EV Buses

Volume 1 Issue 11

Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a significant clean mobility milestone as GreenCell Mobility announced the deployment of 75 electric buses in Puducherry. The initiative supports the Union Territory’s transition toward zero-emission public transport and strengthens India’s broader electric bus adoption roadmap.

Backed by Eversource Capital, GreenCell Mobility continues expanding its electric Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) platform across states and Union Territories under national electrification programs.

75 Advanced Electric Buses Designed for Trunk and City Routes

Under the Puducherry electric bus deployment, GreenCell will introduce 25 nine-metre and 50 twelve-metre air-conditioned electric buses. These buses feature higher battery capacities and are specifically configured for standard and trunk route operational requirements.

GreenCell has partnered with EKA Mobility to supply and deploy the fleet. The buses will operate from the Mettupalayam Bus Depot, improving last-mile connectivity and enhancing reliability and service efficiency across key routes.

Each bus integrates advanced systems, including an Integrated Transport Management System (ITMS), Passenger Information Systems, real-time vehicle tracking, internal and reversing cameras, and infrastructure designed for differently abled passengers. The fleet induction will reduce tailpipe emissions while strengthening operational performance across trunk and feeder corridors.

Expanding National Footprint Across Urban and Intercity Segments

Beyond Puducherry, GreenCell Mobility is executing large-scale electric city bus projects across Uttar Pradesh (700 buses), Surat (150), Madhya Pradesh (582), Andhra Pradesh (750), Telangana (915), Karnataka (400), and Delhi (570). The company also operates 50 intercity electric buses for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation.

Currently, GreenCell operates over 1,200 electric buses supported by more than 270 charging stations nationwide. Through its intercity brand NueGo, the company runs over 300 electric coaches connecting more than 100 locations, reinforcing its leadership across both intra-city and inter-city electric mobility segments.
