Government Releases Major Updates on PM E-DRIVE Scheme: ₹1,634 Cr Subsidy Disbursed, Scheme Extended

Greaves Electric Mobility

The Government of India has released a comprehensive update on the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, outlining progress on subsidies, e-ambulance deployment, public charging infrastructure, and electric bus allocations across major cities. The information was shared in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Shri Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma.

Significant Subsidy Disbursement

As of 23 November 2025, the government has disbursed ₹1,634.62 crore in subsidies under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme. This financial support continues to accelerate the adoption of cleaner and more efficient mobility solutions across the country.

Focus on e-Ambulances and Scheme Extension

To strengthen emergency response systems, the government has allocated ₹500 crore for e-ambulances. Stakeholder consultations have been completed, and guidelines are ready for implementation.

The scheme has been extended till 31 March 2028 for e-ambulances and all other segments, while support for e-2Ws and e-3Ws remains valid only until 31 March 2026.

EV Charging Infrastructure: Funds Allocated but Awaiting Utilization

A substantial ₹2,000 crore has been set aside for EV public charging infrastructure (EVPCI). However, no grants have been disbursed yet. Two major Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have submitted proposals for installing charging stations under PM E-DRIVE.

Massive e-Bus Allocation for Urban Mobility

The scheme has approved a large fleet of electric buses for key Indian cities:

  • 1,500 e-buses for Mumbai
  • 2,800 e-buses for Delhi
  • 1,000 e-buses for Pune

Guidelines for charging infrastructure have also been shared with all States and Union Territories to ensure accessibility and efficient utilization.

Key Takeaway

The PM E-DRIVE Scheme continues to be a pivotal driver in India’s electric mobility transition—boosting clean public transport, strengthening emergency mobility, and laying the foundation for nationwide charging infrastructure.
