Maruti Suzuki Launches e Vitara Test Drives Nationwide
Maruti Suzuki India has begun preparations for customer test drives of its first electric vehicle, the e Vitara, with the programme scheduled to start in January 2026. Dealer dispatches are already underway, with the SUV being distributed across 500 Nexa showrooms 350 units in December and another 150 in January to give prospective buyers early access to the EV experience.
According to the company’s Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, Partho Banerjee, the move addresses customer concerns around range, charging infrastructure and after-sales support by enabling test drives ahead of booking windows.
Dedicated EV Platform and Strong Range Credentials
The e Vitara is built on Maruti’s dedicated HEARTECT-e electric platform, developed specifically for battery electric vehicles. The SUV will feature two LFP battery pack options 49 kWh and 61 kWh both mated to permanent magnet synchronous motors.
The larger 61 kWh variant delivers a certified ARAI range of 543 km on a single charge, placing the e Vitara among the longest-range electric SUVs in its class. By offering multiple battery options, Maruti aims to meet diverse customer needs on range, price point, and usage patterns.
Charging Ecosystem and After-Sales Support Strategy
Maruti Suzuki is enhancing its EV support ecosystem in parallel with the e Vitara rollout. The company has partnered with 13 charge point operators and aggregators, enabling access to multiple public charging networks via a unified interface.
To support ownership confidence, Maruti has deployed more than 2,000 exclusive charging points across its dealer network in over 1,100 cities. Additionally, over 1,500 EV-capable service workshops are ready to deliver specialised after-sales support, backed by trained staff focussed on EV maintenance and customer service.
Segment Positioning and Market Context
The e Vitara will compete in the rapidly growing mid-size electric SUV segment, going up against rivals including the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV and VinFast VF6.
Bookings for the SUV are planned to open in January 2026, setting the stage for Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the mass EV market with a structured rollout strategy that integrates test drives, showroom reach, charging infrastructure and after-sales readiness.
