India & Germany Chart a Unified Path for Electric Mobility Transition

Greaves Electric Mobility

India and Germany convened senior officials, industry leaders, and global partners in New Delhi for the ninth edition of the Indo-German Partnership for Green and Sustainable Development (GSDP) Conversation Series. The session, themed “Electric Mobility: From System Integration to Skills Development,” aimed to align national ambitions with ecosystem-wide implementation.

A Shift From Pilot Projects to System-Level Planning

Stakeholders agreed that India’s EV future hinges on coordinated planning across renewable energy, manufacturing, transport, finance, and workforce capability. Germany’s Director General Christine Toetzke emphasized that electric mobility represents a society-wide transformation, not just a technological switch.

Key Insights From the Dialogue

  • India’s PM eDrive Scheme allocates ₹10,900 crore to accelerate vehicle electrification and charging infrastructure.
  • The PM eBus Sewa initiative plans the deployment of 10,000 e-buses through PPP models.
  • A ₹3,435 crore Payment Security Mechanism introduced in 2024 is designed to de-risk large-scale e-bus operations.
  • National charging standards issued by the Ministry of Power and BEE in 2024 focus on interoperability, safety, tariffs, and smart charging.

Strengthening Skills, Financing & City-Level Capacity

Panelists from Bosch Mobility India, Intent Platform, and ASDC highlighted the importance of aligning technical skills, gender-inclusive workforce development, financing models, and DISCOM coordination. Officials stressed that successful deployment requires synergy between central, state, and city authorities—especially for depot electrification and grid readiness.

A Growing Indo-German Alliance for Sustainable Mobility

Launched in 2022, the GSDP continues to support climate-aligned initiatives tied to the SDGs and Paris Agreement. This latest dialogue reinforces both nations’ commitment to a scalable, future-proof e-mobility ecosystem.
