Repurposing EV batteries for clean rural power

OMC Power has announced a strategic partnership with Honda Motor Co. to develop energy storage solutions using repurposed EV batteries. The initiative will support OMC’s renewable energy microgrids across rural India, bringing consistent and clean electricity to regions that face frequent power gaps.

Circular energy model for sustainability

The project focuses on extending the lifecycle of used Honda EV batteries, turning them into reliable storage units for solar and hybrid microgrids. This approach aligns with global sustainability goals by reducing electronic waste, lowering carbon emissions, and maximizing the value of critical materials used in battery manufacturing.

Strengthening India’s rural electrification

By integrating repurposed EV batteries into local energy networks, OMC Power aims to make rural electrification more resilient and cost-effective. Honda’s technical expertise in battery systems combined with OMC’s experience in distributed power infrastructure provides a strong foundation for scaling second-life energy solutions across India.
