The Himachal Pradesh government has taken a significant step toward promoting sustainable mobility by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EVI Technology and Jio-bp to develop five green corridors in the state. This ambitious project aims to enhance electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure by establishing 41 EV charging stations across key routes within a year.

Green Corridors: Strategic Routes

The green corridors will be developed along the following routes:

  1. Mandi-Jogindernagar-Pathankot and Kiratpur-Manali-Kelang (by Jio-bp).
  2. Parwanoo-Una-Sansarpur-Terrace-Nurpur and Parwanoo-Shimla-Recongpeo-Losar (by EVI Technology).
  3. Shimla-Hamirpur-Chamba (by Electroweb Company).

These corridors will feature EV charging stations, way-side amenities, and supermarkets to cater to public and commercial EVs, including e-buses and e-trucks.

Key Highlights of the Initiative

  • 41 EV Charging Stations: Strategically located to ensure accessible and reliable charging infrastructure for EV users.
  • Way-Side Facilities: Includes restrooms, restaurants, and supermarkets to enhance the travel experience.
  • Lease Revenue: Partner companies will pay ₹75 lakh annually as lease money to the state government.

Government’s Vision for Green Energy

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted the state’s goal to become a Green Energy State by 2026. This includes transitioning the Himachal Road Transport Corporation’s (HRTC) fleet to electric buses in a phased manner.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri emphasized the importance of this initiative in:

  • Encouraging private vehicle owners to switch to EVs.
  • Reducing carbon emissions and supporting environmental preservation.
  • Strengthening the state’s position as a model for electric mobility in India.

Sustainability and Economic Growth

The project supports Himachal Pradesh’s sustainability goals by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and cutting carbon emissions. It also brings economic benefits through the creation of EV-friendly infrastructure, paving the way for:

  • Cleaner Transport Solutions: EV charging for public and private vehicles.
  • Tourism Boost: Enhanced way-side amenities to attract EV tourists.
  • Job Opportunities: Employment through infrastructure development and maintenance.
