Transforming Last-Mile Connectivity with Green Public Transport
The Government of Delhi has launched a major green mobility project—the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVi). This initiative introduces 400 electric buses across East and West Delhi to improve last-mile connectivity and promote sustainable urban transport.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the project, with support from Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and other senior officials. The DEVi initiative aligns with the national mission for cleaner, smarter cities, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Better Commutes for Delhi Residents
In the first phase, DEVi buses will serve key areas such as Ghazipur, Vinod Nagar East, and Nangloi. These buses will connect metro stations and bus terminals, making daily travel easier for thousands.
Buses will operate at 10-minute intervals, offering commuters a reliable, fast, and affordable mode of transport.
- Seating Capacity: 23 seated + 13 standing
- Reserved Seats: 6 for women
- Fare Range: ₹10 to ₹25
- Free Travel: Available for women passengers
Modern Features for Safety and Accessibility
DEVi buses offer several smart and inclusive features:
- Real-time GPS tracking
- Automatic passenger counters
- Digital route displays and voice announcements
- Onboard CCTV cameras and panic buttons
- Wheelchair ramps and knee-down floors for accessibility
These features ensure a safer and more inclusive experience for all, especially women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
Toward a Greener, Smarter Delhi
The DEVi electric bus program supports Delhi’s goal of reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions. It also improves air quality and boosts the overall standard of public transport.
This rollout marks a bold move toward eco-friendly mobility in India. With future phases planned, Delhi is leading the charge toward a cleaner and more accessible transport future.
