Bonfiglioli Transmissions is targeting electric off-highway equipment as a new growth opportunity, expanding its electric-drive portfolio for construction, mining, agriculture and material-handling applications. The company plans to leverage technologies developed by its global group to support the growing electrification of industrial machinery.
Expanding Electric Mobility Beyond Road Vehicles
According to its Red Herring Prospectus (RHP), Bonfiglioli plans to introduce additional electric-drive solutions, including:
- Wheel drives for battery-powered pallet trucks and electric stackers.
- Wheel and track drives for electric off-highway machinery.
- Integrated electric-drive systems for construction equipment.
The company sees electrification as an adjacent growth opportunity as equipment manufacturers increasingly explore electric and hybrid alternatives.
Advanced Electric Drives for Construction Equipment
Bonfiglioli has already developed several electric-drive technologies globally. At iVT Expo 2026, the group showcased an integrated electric swing-drive system for excavators weighing up to 20 tonnes.
The system combines a planetary gearbox with a permanent magnet motor, delivering up to 35 kW of power. The company also demonstrated electric-drive solutions for compact track loaders and hybrid machinery.
Electric Equipment Adoption Gains Momentum in India
India’s construction equipment industry is gradually adopting electrification, although progress varies across segments due to costs, operating requirements and charging infrastructure.
Warehousing and intralogistics also present opportunities, with growing demand for electric forklifts, pallet trucks, stackers and automated guided vehicles.
Local Manufacturing to Support Expansion
Bonfiglioli began manufacturing electric motors at its Mannur facility in Tamil Nadu in October 2025. The localisation initiative aims to reduce motor delivery lead times from approximately 12 weeks to four weeks.
Meanwhile, its off-highway mobility business generated ₹320.38 crore in revenue during the first half of 2026, recording 36.36% year-on-year growth. This growth was primarily driven by higher OEM production and new international programmes.
Future Growth Opportunities
Bonfiglioli’s established OEM relationships and engineering expertise provide a foundation for expanding into electric machinery. However, the company has not disclosed India-specific launch timelines, additional investment plans or revenue targets for its electric off-highway business.
