German automotive supplier MAHLE has started commercial production of electric compressors (e-compressors) at its manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, following an investment of €7 million (approximately ₹65 crore). The facility marks MAHLE’s first dedicated e-compressor manufacturing line in India.
Boosting India’s EV Thermal Management Ecosystem
E-compressors are a critical component of electric vehicle thermal management systems. They help regulate cabin temperatures and maintain optimal battery operating conditions, supporting charging efficiency, driving range and battery longevity.
The new production line strengthens MAHLE’s localization strategy while positioning India as an important manufacturing base for advanced EV components.
300,000+ Units Annual Production Capacity
The Coimbatore facility has an installed annual capacity of more than 300,000 units at peak utilization. Production will cater to:
- Indian electric vehicle manufacturers and OEMs
- Global export requirements
- Growing demand for EV thermal management solutions
Strengthening India’s EV Component Manufacturing
MAHLE executives highlighted India’s growing importance in the global transition toward sustainable mobility. The company said the new facility reflects its focus on localization, customer-centric innovation and advanced EV technologies.
With domestic production of e-compressors now underway, MAHLE is set to play a larger role in India’s rapidly developing EV component ecosystem while supporting both domestic and international customers.
