India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has officially entered India’s electric two-wheeler market with the launch of its first electric scooter, EC-06, priced at ₹1,67,600 ex-showroom Delhi. The model will be offered in a Bluish White colour and sold through select Yamaha Blue Square showrooms, indicating a phased and premium retail strategy. The EC-06 represents Yamaha’s initial step toward electrification in India after years of internal development and global EV exposure.
Powertrain, Battery and Performance Specifications
The Yamaha EC-06 is powered by an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), delivering 26 Nm of torque and 6.7 kW of peak power. Energy is supplied by a 4 kWh fixed lithium-ion battery, enabling a claimed range of 169 km on a single charge. With a top speed of 79 km/h, the scooter is clearly tuned for city and short intercity usage rather than high-speed performance.
The use of IPMSM technology reflects Yamaha’s focus on efficiency, thermal stability, and consistent torque delivery, aligning with global electric drivetrain trends.
Durability, Warranty and Market Positioning
Yamaha has emphasised durability and environmental resilience in the EC-06’s design. The motor and battery pack are IP67 certified, offering protection against dust and water immersion, while the remaining electronics carry IP65 certification. This positions the scooter well for Indian road and weather conditions.
The EC-06 comes with a battery warranty of 3 years or 30,000 km, reinforcing Yamaha’s quality-led approach rather than aggressive cost optimisation. At its price point, the EC-06 sits in the premium electric scooter segment, targeting urban consumers who value brand trust, engineering pedigree, and long-term reliability.
Yamaha’s selective city rollout and Blue Square-only availability suggest a measured scaling strategy as the company evaluates consumer response and infrastructure readiness.
