MECPL approved under government PLI scheme

Samvardhana Motherson International Limited announced that its subsidiary, Motherson Electronic Components Private Limited (MECPL), has been approved as a beneficiary under the Government of India’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme through the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS).

The approval was granted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and covers the manufacturing of enclosures for the consumer electronics industry.

₹1,900 crore investment planned in Tamil Nadu

MECPL plans to invest a cumulative ₹1,900 crore over six financial years from FY 2026 to FY 2031 at its manufacturing facility in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The company will receive incentives during this period, subject to meeting production and investment targets specified under the scheme.

The expansion is expected to create more than 5,000 employment opportunities, supporting regional industrial development and skill generation.

Strategic diversification beyond automotive

Motherson operates across 425 facilities in 44 countries, serving multiple sectors including automotive, consumer electronics, healthcare, aerospace, logistics, and industrial IT solutions. While it remains India’s largest auto ancillary manufacturer, the ECMS approval reinforces its push to build scale in consumer electronics manufacturing.

The PLI scheme is designed to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities, reduce import dependence, and attract large-scale investments into India’s electronics value chain.
