EKA Mobility’s EV Blitz: A New Commercial Vehicle Every Six Months, 10,000 E-Bus Capacity Planned by FY27

Greaves Electric Mobility

EKA Mobility, a part of Pinnacle Industries, has announced an aggressive strategy to dominate India’s commercial electric vehicle (EV) market, with plans to launch a new product every six months. Founder and Chairman Sudhir Mehta revealed that the company is developing a comprehensive portfolio spanning small commercial vehicles (SCVs), heavy-duty trucks, and an expanded range of electric buses. The company aims to have a full suite of commercial EVs ready within the next two years, positioning itself as a key player in India’s electrification drive.

Expanding the Portfolio and Production Footprint

EKA’s upcoming product pipeline is diverse and ambitious. In the SCV segment, the company will launch 3- and 6-seater passenger EVs, 3-wheeler cargo carriers, 2.5-tonne cargo vehicles, garage tippers, and 3.5-tonne trucks for last-mile delivery, with the first models hitting the market this festive season. In the heavy vehicle space, 7-tonne and 55-tonne electric trucks are currently under trial for a near-future launch. To support this growth, EKA is doubling its e-bus manufacturing capacity at its Pune plant to 5,000 units annually by FY27 and adding another 5,000-unit capacity at its new facility in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh.

Tackling India’s E-Bus Deficit and Charging Hurdles

The expansion comes as India grapples with low e-bus penetration—just 3.1% of total bus sales in FY25, far from the government’s 40% target for 2030. EKA is gearing up to meet the demand surge expected from the government’s 10,000-bus procurement under the PM E-Drive scheme. While acknowledging that inadequate charging infrastructure remains a key bottleneck, Mehta expressed confidence that the government’s ₹2,000-crore allocation for charging under the scheme will help ease this challenge, especially along major trucking corridors.

A Strategic Push for Decarbonisation and Cost Efficiency

EKA’s strategy is closely aligned with India’s environmental and economic goals. With buses contributing nearly 15% of the country’s CO₂ emissions despite being less than 1% of the total vehicle fleet, their electrification is a national priority. Furthermore, Mehta highlighted that electric trucks offer a significant cost advantage over diesel counterparts due to lower operating expenses, making them a compelling proposition for the logistics sector. By scaling its capacity and diversifying its portfolio, EKA Mobility is not just building a business but also a critical component of India’s sustainable transport future.
