Ola Becomes First Indian EV Maker to Cross 900,000 Unit Sales

Ola Electric has set a landmark record in the Indian electric two-wheeler market by becoming the first manufacturer to surpass 900,000 retail unit sales. Since entering the market in late 2021, Ola has clocked 917,889 units by the end of June 2025, according to Vahan portal data.

Record-Breaking Journey in Just Four Years

Ola’s rise has been meteoric since its debut, consistently outperforming rivals and setting industry benchmarks:

  • CY2021 – 240 units sold in its launch year (Market share: 0.15%)
  • CY2022 – 109,403 units, Market share: 17.32% (More than combined sales of Ather Energy and TVS Motor)
  • CY2023 – 267,386 units, 144% YoY growth, Market share: 30.37%
  • CY2024 – 407,692 units, 52% YoY growth, Market share: 35.47% (Record year for India’s e-2W industry with 1.14 million sales)
  • CY2025 (Jan–Jun) – 133,168 units, down 51% YoY, Market share: 18.77% amid rising competition

In March 2024, Ola achieved the best-ever monthly sales for an e-2W maker in India – 53,647 units with a 38% market share.

Competitive Landscape

Ola’s stronghold has pushed rivals to step up:

  • TVS Motor Co – 220,814 units in CY2024
  • Bajaj Auto – 193,653 units in CY2024
  • Ather Energy – 126,358 units in CY2024; crossed 400,000 cumulative sales in July 2025
  • Hero MotoCorp’s Vida – crossed 100,000 cumulative sales in August 2025

However, 2025 has seen a shift in monthly leadership. Bajaj Auto topped the charts in February and March, while TVS led in April, May, June, and July.

Most of Ola’s sales come from its 14-variant S1 e-scooter lineup, which spans multiple price points:

  • Price range: ₹65,000 – ₹1,70,000
  • Top seller: S1 Pro with a 4 kWh battery, 142 km claimed range, and ₹1,54,999 ex-showroom price

In May 2025, Ola began deliveries of its Roadster X electric motorcycle:

  • Peak power: 11 kW
  • Top speed: 125 km/h
  • Range: 501 km
  • USP: “15X lower running cost than comparable ICE models”

Outlook for CY2025

With five months remaining in CY2025, Ola is projected to cross the 1 million cumulative sales mark, becoming the first Indian e-2W OEM to do so. On August 15, 2025, Ola will unveil its ‘India Inside’ vision at the annual Sankalp event at its Krishnagiri Gigafactory, outlining its future product and technology roadmap.
