Tesla Strengthens India Leadership with Sharad Agarwal Appointment

Greaves Electric Mobility

Tesla Inc. has appointed Sharad Agarwal, the former head of Lamborghini India, as its new India Head, marking a major step in the company’s expansion plans in the country. Agarwal’s appointment signals Tesla’s intent to build a strong leadership foundation as it accelerates product rollouts, retail expansion, and brand engagement across India.

Expanding Footprint in India

The announcement comes as Tesla ramps up its presence in the Indian market with new facilities and product deliveries.

  • The company opened its first experience centre in Mumbai in July, followed by another in Delhi’s Aerocity in August.
  • Deliveries of the Tesla Model Y, the world’s best-selling electric vehicle for 2023 and 2024, have officially begun.
  • The Model Y is available in two trims: rear-wheel drive (500 km range, WLTP) and long-range rear-wheel drive (622 km range, WLTP).

Sharad Agarwal’s Automotive Legacy

Agarwal brings extensive experience from the luxury automotive sector, having previously led Lamborghini India where he was credited with expanding the brand’s visibility and customer network. Before joining Tesla, he served as Chief Business Officer at Classic Legends, a Mahindra & Mahindra subsidiary that revived legacy motorcycle brands such as Jawa and BSA.

Tesla’s Next Phase in India

With Agarwal at the helm, Tesla’s India strategy is expected to focus on local market integration, policy alignment, and network expansion, including charging infrastructure and service centers. His leadership is likely to play a pivotal role as Tesla navigates India’s growing EV ecosystem and prepares for potential local manufacturing in the near future.
