Skoda plans to introduce more global models into the Indian market in 2026

Greaves Electric Mobility

Aiming to excite the segment with iconic cars alongside its existing portfolio, but its electric vehicle (EV) plans for India remain on hold for now. According to Ashish Gupta, Brand Director of Skoda Auto India, the locally produced models like Kylaq, Kushaq, and Slavia will continue next year, while the company will also bring in some global nameplates yet to be disclosed. Despite the growing EV market in India, Skoda has no immediate plans to launch electric cars, waiting on clearer government policies and subsidy support before making a decision.

Expanding the Product Lineup with Global Models

Skoda aims to cater to a diverse customer base by enhancing its product range with global offerings. The brand is leveraging the popularity and success of models like the Octavia, which generated significant excitement recently. While maintaining its locally produced SUVs and sedans, Skoda plans to import more premium global variants, though official model names remain undisclosed. This move is part of a strategy to strengthen market presence and sustain sales momentum in a competitive environment.

EV Plans on Hold Amid Policy Wait

Electric mobility aspirations are cautious as Skoda awaits clarity on government policies, especially relating to the new CEPA 3 and subsidy frameworks. The decision whether to introduce electric vehicles as completely built units (CBUs) or locally assembled (CKD) will depend on these policy outcomes. Although Skoda has EVs in its European line-up, they are deferring Indian EV launch plans until supportive regulations and incentives are finalized to ensure a viable market entry.

Strong Sales Performance and Market Share Goals

Skoda is enjoying its strongest year in India with over 61,600 units sold from January to October 2025, surpassing its previous sales record. The brand targets to maintain its 2 percent market share in the domestic passenger vehicle segment, capitalizing on the sales momentum boosted by recent GST reforms. This performance underpins Skoda’s strategy of balancing local production with global imports to address various customer needs.
