Charging Infrastructure Plan for Navi Mumbai
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is set to establish eight public EV charging stations as part of its first-phase infrastructure push. Four stations will be located in Zone 1 and another four in Zone 2, aiming to deliver 48 charging points to support increasing EV adoption.
Public-Private Model and Revenue Strategy
This rollout is being funded via a public-private partnership with companies like Kay Bee Batteries Pvt. Ltd., Road Grid India Pvt. Ltd., and Delta Electronics India Pvt. Ltd.. To sustain operations, NMMC will earn ₹ 4 per kWh of energy dispensed and has allocated ₹ 2 crore from the 15th Finance Commission’s air-quality fund. The charging hubs are also planned to host advertising space and kiosks, creating added commercial value.
Strategic Impact on EV Adoption
This initiative aligns with broader national goals to reduce greenhouse emissions and hit EV adoption targets. NMMC’s plan to set up 24 “clusters” around the city covering 143 potential charging points shows long-term ambition.By starting with these eight stations, the city is making a practical, scalable bet on EV infrastructure while balancing public service and revenue generation.
