Jaguar Postpones Electric GT Launch to 2026 After Cyberattack Disrupts JLR Operations

Greaves Electric Mobility

Jaguar has delayed the much-anticipated launch of its first all-electric four-door grand tourer to 2026, following a massive cyberattack that crippled Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) production and global IT systems earlier this year. The car, which was initially scheduled for a late-2025 debut, is central to Jaguar’s ambitious plan to reinvent itself as a fully electric luxury brand.

Cyberattack Causes Massive Operational Setback

The August 2025 cyberattack forced production halts at JLR’s Solihull, Halewood, and Wolverhampton plants, causing severe disruptions across its supply chain. Analysts estimate that the incident cost the UK economy £1.9 billion (about ₹22,000 crore), affecting not just JLR but several associated industries.

The breach also resulted in IT outages, preventing dealerships and suppliers from processing orders. Consequently, Jaguar had no vehicles in active production, forcing the automaker to postpone its flagship EV project.

The Road Ahead: Electric GT to Lead Jaguar’s Revival

Jaguar’s upcoming electric grand tourer, based on the Type 00 concept revealed in December 2024, aims to embody the brand’s new design and technological direction. Production is set to begin in North America in 2026, followed by Europe and Asia, with India being a potential market.

Designed to rival the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan, the electric GT will blend Jaguar’s classic styling with next-generation EV performance. The model’s success will be vital for Jaguar as it seeks to reclaim its luxury status in an increasingly competitive global EV market.
