The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced the rollout of a new set of EV charging stations across prominent public locations in the city. Developed in partnership with Relux Electric Pvt. Ltd. and the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd. (TNGECL), these stations will become operational before next month and mark the first phase of Tamil Nadu’s broader plan to deploy 500 EV charging stations across the state.
Charging Stations at Chennai’s Most Popular Public Spots
To meet rising EV demand, the Corporation has identified major public spaces for the first nine installations. These include:
- Marina Beach Parking
- Besant Nagar Beach Parking
- Nageswara Rao Park, Mylapore
- Bougainvillea Park, Anna Nagar
- Semmozhi Poonga, Teynampet
- T. Nagar Corporation Playground
- Somasundaram Park, T. Nagar
- Mangal Lake Park, Ambattur
- Ashtalakshmi Temple Parking, Besant Nagar
Each station will span around 500 sq. ft., capable of charging two cars and three two-wheelers simultaneously, and will include fast-charging options for four-wheelers.
A Major Boost for Chennai’s Clean Mobility Vision
This initiative is expected to significantly strengthen public EV infrastructure, making charging more accessible and encouraging adoption across both two-wheeler and four-wheeler segments. As the first step under the TNGECL–Relux partnership, these nine locations set the foundation for a statewide clean mobility expansion.
An official from the Chennai Corporation emphasised that the project supports the city’s mission to promote clean, energy-efficient, and sustainable urban mobility, while improving convenience for EV users across Chennai.
