Trio of EVs slated for 2026 push
Luxury automaker BMW AG has announced plans to introduce three new electric vehicles in India in 2026, underscoring its commitment to expanding its premium EV lineup in the world’s third-largest auto market. The move is part of a broader product offensive that includes 10 new models and 17 upgrades, with a significant focus on electrified offerings.
BMW is targeting a strategic milestone of electrified vehicles accounting for 25 % of its India sales in 2026, up from about 21 % last year, as it doubles down on battery-only launches while forgoing hybrid introductions in the market. The push comes amid rising luxury EV demand, driven in part by competitive pricing on locally assembled models such as the iX1 EV, which helped boost EV sales by 200 % in 2025.
Expected models and segment positioning
Although specific model details and launch timelines remain under wraps, industry observers expect BMW’s India EV lineup to feature premium SUV and sedan offerings tailored to affluent buyers. A key candidate is the all-new BMW iX3, revealed at CES 2026 with advanced Neue Klasse architecture, an 800 V eDrive system, WLTP ranges of up to 805 km, ultra-fast charging capability and AI-enhanced tech, signalling the direction for BMW’s next EV generation.
Beyond the iX3, BMW’s broader EV roadmap may include other Neue Klasse derivatives and high-performance electric sedans, which are expected to combine range, luxury and cutting-edge digital ecosystems aimed at discerning customers.
Supporting infrastructure and local strategy
To underpin its EV ramp-up, BMW is investing in dealership upgrades and charging infrastructure in India. It has rolled out high-capacity fast chargers along major highways and within dealer networks, aligned with its luxury EV sales momentum. Additionally, BMW continues to explore higher local sourcing of components including EV parts to enhance cost competitiveness and long-term market sustainability.
