EV Industry Could Create 40 Million Jobs by 2030, Salaries May Rise 45%

India’s electric vehicle (EV) industry is expected to become a major employment engine, with the sector potentially creating 30–40 million jobs by 2030, according to Adecco India. The growing demand for specialised EV skills could also push salaries up by as much as 45% compared with traditional internal-combustion-engine (ICE) roles.

EV Hiring Could Grow Up to 20% Annually

Adecco India expects hiring across the EV ecosystem to increase by 15–20% every year, while demand for specialised talent could rise by around 35%.

The employment opportunity will extend well beyond vehicle manufacturing, covering:

  • Battery manufacturing and maintenance
  • Charging infrastructure
  • EV servicing and repairs
  • Software and telematics
  • Fleet operations and management
  • Battery recycling and logistics

Manufacturing Remains the Biggest Job Creator

Manufacturing is expected to account for around 50–55% of total EV hiring demand. However, battery production, charging infrastructure and the circular economy are likely to see particularly strong growth.

Interestingly, only around 10–15% of the projected jobs are expected to be direct positions, while 85–90% could emerge through indirect employment across the wider EV ecosystem.

Specialised EV Skills Could Earn Premium Salaries

As EV technology evolves, companies increasingly need professionals skilled in batteries, power electronics, software, charging systems and connected mobility.

Adecco India estimates that specialised EV professionals could earn salary premiums of up to 45% over comparable ICE-sector roles, highlighting the growing value of specialised technical expertise.

Contract Hiring Could Lead the EV Job Boom

Around 40–50% of new EV hiring mandates could initially come through contractual and flexible staffing arrangements before transitioning into permanent roles.

With EVs expected to account for around 60% of India’s projected green jobs by 2030, the sector could become a major pathway for reskilling conventional automotive workers and creating new technology-focused careers.
