Full Acquisition of UMBM Strengthens EV Component Strategy
Uno Minda has announced the acquisition of the remaining 49.9% stake in its joint venture with Buehler Motor GmbH, making Uno Minda Buehler Motor Pvt. Ltd. (UMBM) a completely owned subsidiary. The move will be completed by Q4 FY26, according to the company’s statement. This step allows Uno Minda to take full control of its traction-motor manufacturing arm, a key supplier for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
In parallel, the company has approved an infusion of up to ₹40 crore into UnoMinda EV Systems (UMEVS), its EV-specific components division. The additional capital will support working capital, new product development, and scaling manufacturing operations to meet rising demand from EV OEMs.
From Component Supplier to Full EV Systems Integrator
With UMBM now fully owned, Uno Minda strengthens its position in the EV value chain by controlling critical traction-motor manufacturing for two- and three-wheelers. This vertical integration aligns with the company’s broader evolution—from a traditional auto-component supplier to a technology-driven systems integrator equipped for the electric mobility era.
The ₹40 crore investment in UMEVS is expected to accelerate development of EV-specific powertrain components and support higher output volumes. This will help bridge supply-side gaps as EV adoption grows across India’s urban and semi-urban markets.
Boosting India’s EV Supply Chain Amid Rising Demand
Uno Minda’s strategic consolidation and investment come at a time when demand for EV components especially motors, e-drives, and powertrain systems is rapidly rising. The move enhances domestic manufacturing capability and reduces reliance on imports, supporting India’s ambition to localize its EV supply chain.
It also positions Uno Minda to service a broad range of EV OEMs, across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and potentially four-wheelers through its other planned ventures. The expanded control over technology and production capacity strengthens India’s broader EV infrastructure resilience and supports sustainable mobility growth.
