Stellantis to Launch Leapmotor Electric Vehicles in India

Greaves Electric Mobility

Stellantis

Pune, India – April 29, 2025 – Global automotive giant Stellantis N.V. announced it will soon launch Leapmotor electric vehicles (EVs) in India, signaling a bold new phase in the company’s electric mobility strategy. Already established in India with its Jeep and Citroen brands, Stellantis aims to cater to India’s booming demand for sustainable transportation solutions.

Stellantis Brings Leapmotor to India’s Fast-Growing EV Market

As part of its growth strategy, Stellantis will introduce Leapmotor’s premium EV lineup to Indian consumers. Leapmotor, a brand that delivered nearly 300,000 vehicles globally in 2024 — doubling its year-over-year performance — is set to target India’s premium electric vehicle segment.

“We are excited to announce the entry of Leapmotor in India, further strengthening our commitment to this dynamic market,” said Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India. “Our goal is to bring premium EVs to India’s upwardly mobile consumers, offering cutting-edge technology, unparalleled comfort, and true sustainability.”

Why India? Why Now?

India’s EV sector is among the fastest-growing automotive markets in the world. With strong government support for electric mobility, including incentives and investments in EV infrastructure, the market is poised for explosive growth. However, challenges such as charging infrastructure gaps and high upfront vehicle costs still exist — particularly outside major cities.

Industry experts predict that Stellantis will initially focus on urban centers where EV infrastructure is more developed, ensuring that Leapmotor vehicles can thrive from the start.

Stellantis’ Global EV Push

Formed by the merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2021, Stellantis has quickly become a leader in the global EV race. Its diverse brand portfolio — including Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, and Vauxhall — continues to roll out electric models across major global markets.

The Leapmotor initiative aligns with Stellantis’ broader mission to achieve carbon net-zero by 2038, setting an aggressive timeline for transforming its global product offerings toward full electrification.

What to Expect from Leapmotor in India

While Stellantis has not yet confirmed the specific Leapmotor models or the launch timeline for India, insiders suggest that compact SUVs, crossovers, and premium hatchbacks could be among the first offerings — perfect for India’s urban and suburban buyers.

Analysts expect that Leapmotor’s emphasis on high-tech features, competitive range performance, and affordable luxury positioning will resonate strongly with India’s fast-evolving consumer base.
