Home » Wings EV Set to Launch India’s First Electric Microcar: The Robin
This innovative vehicle is a two-seater microcar that promises to be as maneuverable as a motorbike, making it ideal for crowded city environments.
The Robin will be available in three variants, catering to different consumer needs and budgets:
• Basic Variant: Priced at ₹2 lakh (ex-showroom), this model features a non-AC setup and offers a range of 65 km.
• Mid Variant: Priced at ₹2.5 lakh, it includes a fan and extends the range to 90 km.
• Premium Variant: At ₹3 lakh, this version comes equipped with air conditioning and advanced safety features, including a patented audio alert system, also offering a range of 90 km.
Each variant has been designed with safety in mind, having passed rigorous tests conducted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) in Pune. The vehicle’s design incorporates a drive-by-wire powertrain, similar to technology used in advanced aircraft, which enhances its safety and performance.
Wings EV aims to produce 10,000 units annually from its Indore plant, with a target of selling 3,000 units in the first year alone. The company has already conducted extensive user research across six cities and completed over 300 test drives in Bengaluru, indicating strong interest in the product.
Pranav Dandekar, CEO and co-founder of Wings EV, emphasized that the microcar is not just a vehicle but a solution to urban mobility challenges. He noted that India sells more than 18 million two-wheelers annually, suggesting a significant market opportunity as many two-wheeler buyers may transition to two-seater microcars in the coming years.
Following the launch in Bengaluru, Wings EV plans to expand the Robin’s availability to other major cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune. The company is also considering establishing a production unit in southern India if demand proves strong enough.
The introduction of the Robin microcar represents a pivotal moment in India’s electric vehicle landscape. With its focus on zero pollution, compact design, and affordability, Wings EV is poised to make a significant impact on urban mobility. As cities grapple with traffic congestion and environmental concerns, innovations like the Robin could pave the way for a more sustainable future in personal transportation.
